Shiny shimmery splendid

Got these glitter shorts last December but only wore it now. I like how it's a matte sort of glitter. Not too bling bling if you know what I mean.

Pants

I'm having a renewed appreciation of pants lately. I still like shorts and skirts of course but there's something sophisticated and classy in getting a pants look right.

So this track pants-like pair is one of the faves of the moment. So loose in a dressy-sporty-casual way. I just don't know what to pair it with other than white and gray tops.

As for these maroon pair, it's a lot comfortable than I think high waisted pants would be. Doesn't pinch the tummy at all.

Word of the day

So it's been a while. Understatement. It took me a minute to recall the URL of the blog. Anyhoo, here's an outfit. I'm really liking boy-ish clothes hence the boyfriend jeans and anorak. I've been attracted to simple, semi-androgynous looks and now even more so. (See Sara Strand's fabulous blog). It might look ordinary, but it's the straight forward silhouettes and the casualness that makes it appealing. Anorak is a slang by the way about obsessing over little things. So segue, I'm being an anorak on Lorde's album Pure Heroine. It's so moody and immersing and heartfelt. More than half of the album is in my ipod's Top 25 Most Played. Total anorak.

Green green

I'm loving the pencil skirt - work appropriate but with a punch of color. And something about high waisted pencil skirts makes me feel oh so lady like. This whole ensemble is from ma's closet by the way. I need more smart casual clothes!

As for the hair, I curled it with the curling iron - something I haven't done in 2 or 3 years. After having my hair colored, I found the curls stick way way longer than before. But the ends are wee bit crispy. Pros and cons.

Oversized things

I like how these 2 outfits are the opposite of each other volume-wise. First one is a full skirt with loose fitting tee. And the next, a voluminous crop top with short skirt.

I'm quite in love with the maxi skirt by the way. I've had 2 maxi skirts before but none as long nor as swishy. Made me feel quite grown up even though it shouldn't since it's bright pink. As for the crop top, it's one of those iffy buys. The shape can be unflattering  (ie makes the wearer look huge), but the kimono-like print coupled with the bell sleeves is hard to resist. It's a well thought out top.

Bling ring-ing it up

These are from the LA leg of the trip (which now seems eons ago). I got the dress for 5 bucks from Cotton On. Sweet. We went to Santa Monica Beach that day - walked along the shore, had a cold latte on the pier, secretly hoping to spot a specific film crew somewhere in the premises (actually anywhere in the city). Well guess what? Two weeks or so after that, the Veronica Mars cast, namely the sassy blonde herself, Ms Kristen Bell, was filming in Santa Monica Beach. Say whaatt? Right? At least I can say I walked the pier where they were. Breathed the same salty air. Stepped on the same fine sand... haha, yeah, nuts

And to continue our trivia segment, here's one: People in LA (or perhaps US in general) don't use the word shooting with regards to making a movie; they say filming instead, since shooting equates to the bad type of shooting. I guess that's the current state of the peace and order in a nutshell.

By the bay

Still in SF and still the same sweater. I like how the slouchy top and baggy pants worked out despite its overall roominess. It's probably my favorite outfit of the trip.

The last photo is our little stroll on the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked like 1/64 of its length before feeling the wobbly floor beneath us and quickly headed back. And trivia? The bridge is actually not red; it's painted international orange. Uh huh, educational tidbit right here.

Color up

Here's a toast to color. I'd love to pair these with some royal blue flats, but for the moment I have some sparkly rubber flats instead. Never thought I would own a pair of jelly shoes one day, but when the underside of the shoes are sparkly too, it's got me convinced.

Non-outfit related:
I started watching The Office again after learning it's ending. I realize no other show makes me laugh more - like laugh-out-loud laugh. How they make hilarious stories out of a dull workplace is amazing. I’ll miss you, Office. And Jim and Pam. Best fictional couple.

PS. Staples recently developed a Dunder Mifflin brand for paper and other office supplies. That’s really smart!

School boy

I couldn't pinpoint at first how these 2 looks seem related to each other, then I realize they're like elementary and high school uniforms for boys, haha. Button-down, khakis, black shoes - check check check! Even though I like florals, lace, flared skirts and all things girly, menswear can be so appealing.

Pink accents

Didn't really know what to wear on this night so I whipped out outfit after outfit but nothing seems to be working. Finally I settled on an old shirt and old skirt which now seem new after months of neglect.

White top + jeans

This top is my favourite F21 find yet. It’s sheer with lace details and pearl buttons - totally girly, but the cropped cut gives it a modern shape. And it’s perfect to pair with boyfriend jeans for a tomboyish edge. Quite happy with this outfit.

Summer in the tropics

Summer must be on everyones' minds as the sweltering Manila weather envelopes us for weeks on end. Besides increased frequency in showers, its side effect is to inspire summery tropical outfits as well as a trim at the salon - which I did a while ago. It's just a couple of inches off, but the psychological effect of feeling cooler is quite beneficial.

Be cool soda pop

It's so hot right now, I'm sweating just by looking at these photos. No more jackets for me.

So, as of this moment, the Veronica Mars Kickstarter project is at 4.3M. Couldn't be more psyched. I'm still pinching myself on the fact that there will be a movie - 6 years after the series' end. A fan funded one to boot. I guess if there’s a show that could come back with a bang – and challenge industry norms in the process, it’s Veronica.

New sounds

I'd like to think this outfit is Alexa Chung / Madewell inspired, see I even have the faux Alexa bag. Though I should probably swap sandals to brogues to get a better effect.

So music-wise, my iTunes is having an overhaul. First I have a massive LSS to When I Dream by Ra Ra Riot. It sounds like something Justin Timberlake would sing but then it's not R&B. The music is hard to categorize - the strings and falsetto makes it so dreamy-sad addicting. Also addicting? Vampire Weekend's Horchata, but in the opposite spectrum with its light and festive beats. Then there's Settle by Two Door Cinema Club. Actually their whole album Beacon is in heavy rotation. It's a more subdued record compared to the first but still upbeat and fun. What can I say, it feels great to get excited by music again.

Summer denim

C and I got a pair of boyfriend... jeans that is. Hehe. We each splurged on a pair from Zara and are seriously excited with its outfit possibilities - with loose shirts or button downs or blazers or heels, etc. It's really about time boyfriend jeans arrived in stores - or perhaps I just missed it before. I've been wanting a pair since ... after searching blog archive... it's since this post. And yes my excitement is evidenced at the photo below - taken after we got back from the mall. Photos above are pre-mall.
